AWARD FOR FLOURISHING COMMUNITY ALLOTMENT
A dedicated community leader whose passion inspires a large team of volunteers to grow fruit and veg at an Eastbourne allotment has won a prestigious national award, specifically the RHS Award. Sally Ross, of Rooted Community Food, has won the Royal Horticultural Society’s Carew Pole Community Award. She co-ordinates 30 volunteers on the Gorringe Road allotment who grow food to supply community fridges and homeless charities. The project started in November 2022 and volunteers include people from all walks of life and of all ages. SHOUT OUT TO THE VOLUNTEERS
Let’s take a moment to give a big shout-out to the Rooted volunteers… From your side of the screen, it might appear well-organised. Behind the scenes we have just one blackboard with a few suggestions chalked down. It’s a certain kind of magic that happens. A group of like-minded people come together, guided by hope and happiness in their hearts, and amazing things happen. It’s a seamless synchronicity that doesn’t rely on schedules or spreadsheets—just a tonne of passion and determination.
