The squash arch is blossoming into something spectacular – we can’t wait for you to see it in all its glory. This week, we’ve sown spaghetti, patty, and butternut squash seeds, getting them ready for their debut in the beds once the temperature warms back up after Spring. THE SQUASH ARCH AND TEA23

Today, we made significant progress on the squash arch, which will maximise our growing space in this bustling area that sees plenty of wheelbarrow traffic. With the ground previously leveled, today we measured out the path, placed two of the six pallet collars, laid down cardboard, woodchipped the path, and began filling the first bed with our homemade, nutrient-rich compost. Our creative team of volunteers plan to weave willow boughs to form the arch – we can’t wait to see the stunning result! We lovingly removed all the seedlings and watered them outdoors under the warm spring sunshine. This keeps our greenhouse dry and uninviting to little critters. The seedlings…

    COMPOST CHRONICALS

Yes, we admit it – we are compost obsessed, but who wouldn’t be with this premium black gold? Our first bay is officially filled, clearing out the old crates that will be relocating to the Kitchen Plot. We’re getting everything ready for our Open Day on March 19th, where we’ll be celebrating social prescribing—and in our case, green social prescribing! Our kitchen plot had a little drama, thanks to some furry friends and premature potato sowing. But fear not, we’ve added some netting and the remaining seed potatoes are chitting in the summer house under tightly secured conditions. And, in a burst of spring beauty, we’ve planted delicate snowdrops along…

    TRANSFORMATION IN PROGRESS

Our small but mighty Wednesday team rolled up their sleeves today and set to work on our kitchen plot makeover! We’ve got BIG plans, and today was all about kicking off the first stage. From clearing space to relocating beds, we’re all about maximizing space in our kitchen area. And let’s just say, we’ve discovered that manure is no joke – wheelbarrowing it over was quite the workout! We’re also moving our compost bay for a top-secret squirrel project! Just need to empty those old crates and transport them over. The mud kitchen and bug hotel got a fresh new look, and we even managed to plant our early and…

    JANUARY IS THRIVING WITH ACTIVITY!

January may be languishing, but we’re thriving in productivity here on the plot! Our compost game is on point with the compost committee ensuring it’s quick, efficient, and producing that rich, crumbly black gold. Thanks to this magic soil and mild temps, our greenhouse is bursting with life this January! Our new compost bay is almost complete—just waiting on the roof—and the first bay is already hard at work. Soon, we’ll be moving the old compost crates to the Kitchen Plot for even more garden goodness. Today, we planted kale and radish, fortified our bean trellis, and prepped more beds for planting. The future’s looking green and glorious! Staying Connected…
